Federal Ministry of Education Launches Nationwide Industry Mapping Sensitization Program

The Federal Ministry of Education has commenced a nationwide Industry Mapping Sensitization Program, running from August 7 to 27, 2025, in key cities including Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Yola, and Port Harcourt. The initiative is designed to close Nigeria’s skills gap by giving technical college students direct exposure to real workplace environments across a range of trades.

The program connects students with industries in sectors such as bricklaying, carpentry, artificial intelligence, robotics, GSM repair, electrical and solar installation, welding, and plumbing, among others. It promotes collaboration between the Ministry and small, medium, and large-scale enterprises to deliver hands-on, practical training.

Recent curriculum reforms have shifted the balance of training from 20% practical work to 80%, ensuring students gain more industry-relevant experience. As part of the upgrade, 38 technical colleges now operate under an artisan-led mentorship model.

Under the program, participating companies will receive a training fee per student, while students will be given monthly stipends during their placement. The current phase covers 18 trades, with plans to add 14 emerging trades between 2026 and 2027.

Sensitization sessions are being held in different regions on set dates—August 7 in Abuja, August 8 in Lagos, August 14 in Kano, August 21 in Yola, and August 25 in Port Harcourt—to engage stakeholders and encourage industry participation.

The initiative is expected to boost Nigeria’s technical workforce by aligning vocational education with the demands of modern industries.
