The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported an impressive revenue growth in the first half of 2025, generating a total of N89.2 billion. This figure marks a significant 63 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

According to Ms. Rose Edelduok, the Area Controller of Kirikiri Customs Command, the terminal achieved this milestone through enhanced collection efforts, improved enforcement of customs laws, and interception of contraband items, including expired pharmaceuticals. The revenue collected underscores the terminal’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s trade ecosystem and the government’s broader efforts to boost non-oil revenue.

Edelduok noted that the revenue generated in the second quarter alone rose by N34.3 billion, reflecting intensified operational activities and collaboration with other security agencies to clamp down on smuggling and revenue leakages.

The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal serves as a key maritime gateway for imports and exports, making efficient customs operations crucial for safeguarding Nigeria’s economy. The growth in revenue collection is an encouraging sign of Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to strengthening border control and maximizing fiscal contributions from maritime trade.

In alignment with government policies to diversify revenue sources, the rise in customs revenue at Kirikiri is expected to contribute significantly to national development projects and public service improvements.

Moving forward, the Nigeria Customs Service aims to sustain this growth trajectory by leveraging technology, enhancing staff capacity, and intensifying intelligence-driven operations to ensure that the terminal continues to perform optimally.
