The Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo (Telade IV), recently celebrated his fifth coronation anniversary in a grand event marked by cultural vibrancy, community empowerment, and royal thanksgiving. The celebrations, held from August 15 to 17, 2025, attracted prominent dignitaries including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, traditional chiefs, political leaders, and community members.
Governor Sanwo-Olu joined others in commemorating Oba Ogunsanwo’s five years of progressive leadership since his enthronement in 2020. The event kicked off with a free medical outreach and empowerment program aimed at improving the wellbeing of Ilara residents, reflecting the monarch’s commitment to both health and socio-economic development.
The main celebration day on August 16 took place at the Alara’s palace and featured the conferment of honorary chieftaincy titles to seven distinguished individuals and couples who have significantly contributed to the growth of Ilara Kingdom. Among the honourees were notable figures such as Prof. John Oladapo Obafunwa (Balogun of Ilara) and Dr. Olanrewaju Obasa (Otunba Bobaseye of Ilara).
The festivities culminated with a thanksgiving service at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, followed by a royal banquet honoring the monarch’s visionary leadership and dedication to his people.
Oba Ogunsanwo, a seasoned public servant and former Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, has used his administrative expertise to drive infrastructural development, cultural renaissance, and youth empowerment within his domain.
This fifth coronation anniversary not only celebrated a respected traditional ruler but also reinforced the unity and cultural heritage of Ilara Kingdom as it continues its journey of progress under his reign.
