The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has strongly condemned the recent assault on National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Anambra State, describing the attack as an unacceptable violation of the rights and safety of young Nigerians serving their nation. The student body has called on law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities to promptly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In a statement issued by the NANS leadership, the organization expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity faced by NYSC members, who are often deployed to various parts of the country to promote unity and contribute to development. NANS emphasized that such violent acts undermine the spirit and purpose of the NYSC scheme.
The association demanded that security measures be urgently reviewed and strengthened across all NYSC locations to ensure the protection of corps members. They also urged the government to proactively engage communities hosting corps members to foster peaceful coexistence and reduce incidents of violence.
NANS reaffirmed its solidarity with the victims and vowed to continue advocating for the welfare and safety of Nigerian students and corps members nationwide. The organization’s response reflects the growing outcry among the youth and civil society for improved security and justice in the country.
As the call for accountability intensifies, all eyes are on the authorities to demonstrate swift action and reinforce protections for NYSC members serving across Nigeria.
