The Osun State Traditional Council has formally appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing issue of withheld allocations to local government areas (LGAs) within the state. The council expressed deep concern over the withholding of funds meant for LGAs, which they say is severely impacting development projects and basic services at the grassroots level.
Speaking on behalf of the council, a senior traditional ruler emphasized that local governments are critical in delivering essential services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure maintenance to communities. The prolonged delay or denial of financial allocations is undermining these efforts and causing hardship among residents.
The traditional leaders urged the federal government to prompt the state authorities to release the full allocations to LGAs without further delay. They highlighted that the smooth functioning of local government administrations is vital for peace and stability in the region.
Furthermore, the council requested that mechanisms be put in place to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of local government finances. They called on all stakeholders to prioritize the welfare of the people above political interests.
This appeal marks a significant effort by traditional rulers to bridge gaps between governance levels and restore effective service delivery amid fiscal challenges. The Osun Traditional Council hopes President Tinubu’s intervention will bring lasting solutions for the benefit of local communities.
