The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the detention of a tricyclist suspected of causing the death of Inspector Kambarawa Wazani during enforcement of the state’s motorcycle restriction policy. The tragic incident occurred around 7 p.m. at the Deputy Governor’s Office junction on Bauchi Road, Gombe.
According to police spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Buhari Abdullahi, the tricyclist was speeding from the Jeka da Fari area and collided with Inspector Wazani while he was on duty. The officer was rushed to a hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect was detained after being discharged from the hospital and is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Police have appealed to all road users to adhere to traffic laws and exercise caution, especially near police checkpoints, to prevent similar accidents.
In response to misinformation circulating on social media about a related incident, the police clarified that a separate motorbike accident was not connected to carrying a pregnant woman nor involved violence by officers, emphasizing the importance of verifying information before dissemination.
The police reiterated their commitment to public safety and urged cooperation from residents to uphold law and order while avoiding the spread of false information.
