Billboard has released its much-anticipated list of the Top 50 Best Afrobeats Songs of All Time, with Nigerian music legend 2Baba’s iconic hit “African Queen” proudly claiming the number one spot. The list, carefully curated by Billboard’s staff, celebrates the trailblazers and game changers who have shaped the vibrant Afrobeats genre over the years.
Following closely, Wizkid secures two entries in the top 10 with his hits “Ojuelegba” at number two and “Essence” featuring Tems at number five, underscoring his massive influence and global appeal. Meanwhile, Flavour’s “Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix)” takes the third position, highlighting his enduring popularity and contribution to the genre.
Other notable mentions in the top five include Rema’s global sensation “Calm Down” at number four. The list further features legendary songs like CKay’s “Love Nwantiti,” D’banj’s “Oliver Twist,” Davido’s “Fall,” Burna Boy’s “Ye,” and P-Square’s “Chop My Money Remix” among the top 10.
Predominantly led by Nigerian artists, the list also recognizes Ghanaian talents such as Fuse ODG and Sarkodie, who appear at 18th and 19th positions respectively with their hits “Azonto” and “Adonai.” Female artists are represented by Yemi Alade’s “Johnny,” ranked as the highest-ranking female lead artist at number 15.
Billboard explained that the songs were selected based on cultural impact, local and international popularity, and commercial success, reflecting how Afrobeats has transcended borders to become a global phenomenon.
