Leke Abejide, the only member of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has predicted that the opposition coalition centered around the ADC will collapse completely by September 2025. Abejide made this assertion during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief program.

Abejide traced the beginning of the coalition’s decline to its failure to secure a single seat in the August 16 by-elections, which he described as “the beginning of the end.” He emphasized that the coalition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, were never card-carrying members of the ADC and lacked legitimacy within the party structure.

Describing himself as the “landlord” of the ADC, Abejide asserted his authority over the party, stating that although he did not establish it, he is responsible for maintaining its prominence. He criticized the coalition for attempting to “hijack” the party without proper membership or respect for the party’s internal mechanisms.

Abejide emphasized that his loyalty to the ADC has been unwavering, noting that he has contested all his elections on the ADC platform and brought additional members to the National and State Assemblies through the party.

His forecast signals potential turbulence in the opposition landscape as the 2027 elections approach, highlighting challenges in maintaining unity among diverse political interests within the coalition.
