Four individuals in Adamawa State have been arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola on charges related to the alleged theft of roofing sheets and other materials from properties belonging to Adamawa State Polytechnic’s Numan campus. The suspects—Nestor John, Kemuel Kefas, Bello Abubakar, and Geoffrey Yohanna, all from Numan town in Numan Local Government Area—are accused of criminal conspiracy and theft in dwelling houses.
The suspects allegedly vandalized several buildings on multiple occasions between 2024 and 2025, stealing roofing sheets, armored cables, and other materials. Court records reveal that one of the suspects was caught on the ceiling of one of the houses during an act of vandalism. The defendants pleaded guilty to theft and mischief but denied other related charges.
Presiding magistrate Muhammed Njidda has ordered that the suspects be remanded, with the trial set to commence on September 2, 2025. This case underscores ongoing concerns about vandalism and theft of public property in the region, highlighting the need for increased security and vigilance.
The prosecution is utilizing sections of the Penal Code Law to pursue justice in this matter, reinforcing the legal consequences of such acts which not only result in property damage but also disrupt the normal functions of critical institutions like educational facilities.
This prosecution serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting public infrastructure and upholding the rule of law in Adamawa and throughout Nigeria.
