African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Dumebi Kachikwu, has declared that he would reintroduce fuel subsidy if elected president in 2027.
Speaking on the state of the economy, Kachikwu criticized the removal of fuel subsidy by the current administration, saying it has worsened hardship for ordinary Nigerians. He argued that while subsidy removal was touted as a path to economic recovery, the lack of proper planning and cushioning measures has left millions struggling with skyrocketing transport costs and inflation.
According to him, the priority of any government should be to protect citizens from extreme poverty and hunger, not subject them to policies that increase suffering. Kachikwu maintained that subsidy, if properly managed and monitored to prevent corruption, can provide relief for households and businesses.
He stressed that Nigeria must strike a balance between economic reforms and social welfare, insisting that the welfare of citizens should not be sacrificed in the name of fiscal discipline. Kachikwu also promised broader reforms in energy and infrastructure if elected, aimed at stabilizing the economy while ensuring affordable fuel for Nigerians.
The ADC aspirant called on citizens to hold leaders accountable and support only those with clear strategies to alleviate hardship rather than compound it.
