The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bauchi State has issued a stern warning to residents to desist from underage voter registration, multiple registrations, proxy collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and any interference with election officials. These acts, according to the commission, constitute serious electoral offences under the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended) and attract severe penalties.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Umar Ibrahim emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the voter registry during the current Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. He explained that the preliminary register of voters will be published every three months, allowing for corrections, objections, and claims to ensure only qualified voters are included.
The tag-along figures underscore the scale of the task at hand: Bauchi State currently has 2,749,268 registered voters across 20 local government areas, with 212 wards and 5,423 polling units. The CVR exercise kicked off with online pre-registration on August 18, 2025, and physical registration beginning August 25, 2025; the process will run until August 30, 2026
Ibrahim appealed to all eligible citizens in Bauchi to participate actively by registering, updating personal information, transferring registration where necessary, and collecting their PVCs. The commission aims to ensure full participation in the democratic process while upholding legal standards.
