Afrobeat singer, Made Kuti, has addressed criticism from a social media user who faulted his decision to marry a woman from the Igbo ethnic group.
The grandson of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti recently tied the knot with his longtime partner, Inedoye, in a private ceremony that drew attention across Nigeria. While many congratulated the couple, one critic took to social media to question his choice of marrying outside the Yoruba ethnic group.
Made Kuti, who is also the son of renowned musician Femi Kuti, wasted no time in replying to the criticism. He dismissed the ethnic sentiment, stressing that love and mutual respect are far more important than tribal considerations in marriage.
In his response, the saxophonist and singer emphasized that Nigeria’s diversity should be celebrated, not used as a tool for division. He further noted that his family has always stood for unity, freedom, and breaking societal barriers, values that guided his decision in choosing his life partner.
Supporters of the singer flooded the comment section, commending him for speaking against tribal prejudice and for promoting love above ethnic boundaries. Many praised his marriage as a reflection of Nigeria’s multicultural strength and the values passed down from the Kuti family.
Made Kuti continues to carry forward the legacy of Afrobeat music and activism, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, while also charting his own path as an advocate for social change.
