A coalition of civil society groups has raised alarm over the worsening state of insecurity in the country, warning that Nigeria is “standing on a knife-edge” if urgent measures are not taken. The group expressed concern that escalating violence, kidnappings, and attacks in several regions are threatening national stability and public confidence in government.

The coalition noted that insecurity has spread beyond rural areas into major towns, disrupting economic activities and forcing families to live in fear. They cautioned that without decisive action, the situation could erode trust in state institutions and further widen divisions across ethnic and religious lines.

Calling for immediate reforms, the coalition urged the government to strengthen intelligence gathering, support community policing, and invest in the welfare of security operatives. They also highlighted the need for addressing root causes such as unemployment, poverty, and weak governance, which continue to fuel crime and extremism.

Stakeholders warn that the current trajectory poses a grave risk not only to citizens’ safety but also to the country’s economic outlook and democratic stability. They insist that failure to act swiftly could push Nigeria closer to widespread instability.
