Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated the Oluremi Tinubu Leather Hub, a project designed to empower artisans, boost local production, and generate employment opportunities in Nigeria’s fashion and leather sector.

Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the hub is part of his administration’s commitment to job creation and youth empowerment. He revealed that the facility is expected to directly and indirectly create over 10,000 jobs, ranging from leather artisans to suppliers and marketers.

The hub, named after Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is equipped with modern machines and training facilities aimed at enhancing the quality of locally made shoes, bags, and leather accessories. Officials say the project will also provide a platform for small businesses to scale up and compete with imported products, thereby boosting the state’s economy.

Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the hub would not only serve Lagos but also open opportunities for other states, as it is positioned to become a major center for leather craftsmanship in West Africa. He further assured stakeholders that his government will continue to support creative industries and vocational skills development.

Industry experts have hailed the initiative as a bold step towards reviving Nigeria’s leather sector, which has the potential to contribute significantly to non-oil exports and national GDP if properly harnessed.
