Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has warned that Nigeria’s opposition parties risk disintegration ahead of the 2027 elections if they fail to rally around the right presidential candidate. According to him, presenting a weak or divisive flagbearer would fracture existing alliances and hand the ruling party an easy advantage.

Lamido emphasized that the opposition’s strength lies in unity, noting that the failure to harmonize interests in the past had repeatedly weakened their chances at the polls. He argued that only a credible, broadly accepted candidate could inspire public confidence and mobilize the diverse blocs necessary to challenge the incumbents.

The former governor further stressed that Nigerians are yearning for leadership that can confront insecurity, economic hardship, and widespread poverty. He insisted that the opposition must rise above personal ambitions and petty rivalries if it hopes to be taken seriously as an alternative government.

His remarks come amid ongoing discussions within opposition ranks on possible mergers and alliances ahead of 2027. Political observers note that Lamido’s warning highlights the delicate balance required to keep competing interests intact in the quest for power.
