Former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has officially welcomed members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing their defection as a sign of growing confidence in the party’s vision ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a brief ceremony held in Osogbo, Aregbesola said the ADC is fast becoming a credible alternative for Nigerians seeking change from the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP. He emphasized that the influx of opposition members into the party shows that citizens are yearning for a new political culture anchored on inclusiveness, accountability, and people-driven governance.
The former Osun governor noted that Nigerian politics is at a turning point, urging citizens to rally around platforms that prioritize national unity over ethnic or partisan interests. He assured the defectors of full integration into ADC structures, adding that their presence would strengthen the party’s grassroots mobilization.
The defectors, who spoke on behalf of their groups, said they were drawn to the ADC because of its promise to give ordinary Nigerians a voice and its agenda for restructuring governance. They pledged loyalty to the leadership of Aregbesola and expressed readiness to work for the party’s success in future elections.
Political observers see the move as part of ADC’s broader strategy to expand its influence by attracting members dissatisfied with the internal crises within both PDP and LP.
