The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced plans to intensify enforcement of fuel pump integrity across filling stations in the country.

According to the association, the move is aimed at addressing growing concerns over cheating at fuel dispensers, where some consumers receive less petrol or diesel than what they pay for. IPMAN said the initiative will ensure that Nigerians get full value for their money, while also restoring confidence in petroleum retail outlets.

IPMAN’s leadership noted that monitoring teams will be deployed across different states to carry out spot checks, working in collaboration with relevant regulatory agencies such as the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). Stations found to be engaging in fraudulent practices, such as pump tampering or under-dispensing, risk facing strict penalties, including suspension of operations.

The association stressed that beyond punishing defaulting marketers, the campaign is also about standardization and consumer protection, ensuring that the downstream sector operates in line with global best practices.

Industry experts have welcomed the move, describing it as timely, especially at a period when rising fuel costs have placed immense strain on households and businesses.

By reinforcing transparency and integrity at the pump, IPMAN hopes to strengthen trust between marketers and the public, while ensuring fair competition in the sector.
