Brazil has accorded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu full military honours as he arrived in Brasília for his official state visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Africa’s largest economy and South America’s biggest nation.

The Nigerian leader was welcomed at the Presidential Palace by his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, with a guard of honour, 21-gun salute, and a ceremonial parade that underscored the significance of the visit.

According to the Presidency, Tinubu’s engagements in Brazil will include high-level bilateral discussions with Lula da Silva focused on expanding cooperation in trade, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure development. Both leaders are also expected to explore opportunities in technology transfer, renewable energy, and cultural exchange, areas seen as critical to deepening the relationship between the two countries.

The Nigerian delegation will participate in an economic forum with top Brazilian investors, with the aim of securing new commitments in oil and gas, solid minerals, and industrial development. The visit also presents an opportunity to boost Nigeria’s export potential in the South American market.

Analysts say the warm reception and military honours highlight Brazil’s recognition of Nigeria as a strategic partner, and the visit could open a new chapter in South-South cooperation.
