At a crucial gathering of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Enugu State, party leaders have unified behind President Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027 while also signaling their readiness to welcome Governor Peter Mbah into their ranks—should he choose to cross over.
During a recent enlarged stakeholders meeting in Enugu, APC representatives formally endorsed Tinubu for a second term, citing the momentum of his transformative governance and its positive impact on the region. The endorsement came in tandem with a declaration of willingness to receive Governor Mbah into the party fold, provided he expresses interest in joining the APC.
Leading the discussions was a coalition of principal voices, including prominent former party officials. One of them underscored that neither the suspended state party chairman nor any federal minister holds the authority to block a governor of Mbah’s stature from defecting—asserting that such decisions rest with the grassroots and broader party structure.
The invitation is built on strategic optimism. Youth leaders and party executives alike believe that Governor Mbah’s potential defection could energize the APC’s structure, expand its voter base, and bolster its slate for both state and national elections. While some party elders caution against automatic concessions—stressing the need for new entrants to undergo primaries—the overall tone remains one of open arms for meaningful collaboration.
Despite internal tensions fueled by factional rivalries and suspensions within the state chapter, the rallying behind Tinubu’s re-election appears to mark a fresh phase of APC’s ambition in Enugu. The endorsement and invitation reflect a deliberate push to reshape the party’s fortunes within a traditionally challenging political environment.
