The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed deep concern over what it describes as mounting political and economic marginalization of the North, warning that the region is being “pushed to the wall.”
In a strongly worded statement issued in Kaduna, the forum lamented that recent political decisions, zoning arrangements, and government policies are increasingly sidelining the interests of Northern Nigeria. The ACF noted that such developments, if left unchecked, could further widen divisions in the country and fuel discontent.
According to the group, the North has made sacrifices to sustain national unity, but feels its contributions are not being recognized or rewarded fairly. The forum also decried rising insecurity, mass poverty, and unemployment in the region, saying Northern communities are paying the heaviest price.
“The patience of our people should not be mistaken for weakness. The North has been enduring unbearable hardship, and with the current political and economic climate, it is evident that we are being pushed to the wall,” the statement read.
The ACF called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, political parties, and other stakeholders to ensure fairness, justice, and inclusiveness in governance. It also appealed to Northern leaders and youths to remain calm, stressing that dialogue remains the best path to resolving grievances.
Political observers say the warning from ACF could reshape alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially as debates over zoning and power rotation continue to dominate Nigeria’s political landscape.
