The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has been thrown into fresh turmoil as more prominent members of the party have announced their departure.

One of the most notable exits came from Usman Danjuma Shiddi, the federal lawmaker representing Wukari/Ibi Constituency, who formally resigned from the APC. His defection is being described as a significant setback for the party, as he commands strong grassroots influence in his constituency.

Shiddi explained that his decision was driven by dissatisfaction with the party’s direction and what he described as a decline in internal democracy. His exit has added to the growing list of party leaders and stakeholders who have recently abandoned the APC in the state.

Speculation is also building around the possible defection of other federal lawmakers from Taraba, with political analysts suggesting that the exodus could further weaken the APC’s hold and strengthen the position of the opposition in the region.

Local observers believe the development underscores deeper divisions within the party. Unless urgent reconciliation efforts are undertaken, the APC risks losing its political foothold in Taraba ahead of the 2027 elections.

For now, the defections are energizing rival parties, while loyalists of the ruling party struggle to reassure supporters and prevent further cracks in their structure.
