Nigerian activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has sharply criticized the government and powerful corporations, accusing them of profound hypocrisy following the tragic death of Ruth Otabor, sister of reality TV star Phyna.

VDM condemned the prolonged silence during the 19 days Ruth remained hospitalized after being struck by a truck, which was allegedly operated by an unlicensed driver. He lamented that despite the severity of the incident, neither bloggers, public figures, nor authorities raised alarms until after her passing—highlighting a worrying trend of empathy only emerging posthumously.

He further lashed out at the Dangote Group, questioning how a major corporate entity could allow unlicensed drivers to operate their vehicles. He argued that this reckless disregard for safety—and the absence of proactive intervention from the government—underscores a systemic failure rather than an isolated incident.

In a scathing call for accountability, VDM insisted that earlier public pressure might have forced faster and more responsible action from both the authorities and the corporation. He vowed to continue challenging the failures of both institutions in protecting ordinary citizens.
