Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister and influential PDP figure, issued a stern warning to his party’s leadership over emerging efforts to reintegrate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 elections. He described Obi’s potential return not as a revival but as a death knell for the party.

Wike pointed out the paradox of welcoming back someone who had previously dismissed the PDP as corrupt—now seen as “good enough” only when ambition calls. He framed the overtures toward Obi as both reckless and hypocritical, asserting that accommodating such a change would obliterate whatever credibility the party has left.

The minister also criticized attempts to encourage another strained reconciliation—with former President Goodluck Jonathan—saying the party appears to be getting played by political hawks once more. He expressed concern that history risks repeating itself, citing how past missteps have already disenchanted grassroots supporters.

Reiterating that he harbors no personal ambition for the presidency, Wike emphasized his focus on party integrity and institutional stability. He argued that ideological consistency must remain a core PDP value, and restoring figures who undermined it for personal gains should not be tolerated.

By challenging the narrative of unity driven by convenience, Wike positioned himself as a watchdog for principle over popularity. His remarks hint at deepening fissures within the PDP as the national conversation intensifies toward 2027.
