A convoy carrying former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, was violently attacked in Birnin Kebbi while he was on a condolence visit. Suspected political thugs stormed the procession, damaging around ten vehicles and injuring several supporters.

Malami, now a leader within the ADC in Kebbi State, emphasized that his visit was purely for mourning and not political campaigning. He described the incident as a painful act that it “clearly linked to politics,” citing attackers emerging from the APC state headquarters wielding stones and dangerous weapons.

In response, the Kebbi APC swiftly denied any involvement, condemning the attack and asserting that it ran counter to their belief in the state’s peace and stability. The party’s spokesperson stressed that no ruling political body confident of victory would dismantle public calm.

The APC also accused Malami’s own security team of exacerbating the situation by opening fire, a claim that has prompted further scrutiny of how the clash unfolded.

Following the violence, law enforcement was dispatched to key locations, including the state party office and Malami’s residence, to restore calm and launch an investigation. Senior police officials are leading inquiries into the attack’s origins and immediate triggers.
