The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Lagos State branch, has directly addressed claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alleging manipulation of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) figures. INEC described these allegations as baseless and purely speculative.
According to INEC’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity, the figures released align with long-standing patterns and Lagos’ demographic characteristics. The state has historically recorded high voter registration numbers—during the 2021–2022 CVR, Lagos alone contributed the highest nationwide, growing from over 6.5 million to just above 7 million registered voters.
INEC further clarified that the latest numbers reflect not only fresh registrants but also include applications for transfers, card replacements, and data updates, making it inaccurate to equate the totals solely with new registrations.
Transparency, the commission added, is a critical principle guiding its operations. Daily registration figures are made publicly available, and INEC maintains an open-door policy to encourage stakeholders to rely on verified data rather than speculation.
INEC assured Nigerians that it remains committed to conducting a credible, inclusive registration exercise and emphasized the importance of trusting official figures over inflammatory political claims.
