FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has issued a strong advisory to former President Goodluck Jonathan, advising him to resist pressure from political factions seeking to draw him into the 2027 presidential race. Wike expressed sharp concern over what he described as attempts by individuals who once undermined Jonathan in 2015 to manipulate him again.

Reflecting on past events, Wike cautioned that welcoming Jonathan back into partisan politics now could inflict lasting harm on the PDP. He questioned how the same people who worked against Jonathan before could now claim to support his return—warning that such contradictions threaten the party’s unity.

The minister underscored Jonathan’s international stature and dignity, saying that preserving that global reputation means stepping back from the chaotic arena of political ambition. “He deserves statesman status—not to be dragged back into a frantic contest,” Wike stated, urging the former president to resist being used as a tool in old political games.

Reassuringly, Wike also distanced himself from any presidential aspirations, affirming that he will not compete in 2027. He emphasized his integrity and loyalty to the sitting president, declaring that it would betray his principles to mount a bid against the leader who appointed him.

Wike’s remarks come amid growing speculation within the PDP, where some leaders are attempting to attract Jonathan back, while others warn of deep internal divisions. His stance positions him as a voice of caution, advocating for institutional stability over emotional political maneuvers as the party prepares for the next general election.
