The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confidently dismissed speculations of a high defection rate undermining its ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking to the press, APC National Vice Chairman (South-East), Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, asserted that the party’s defections largely reflect alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and the Renewed Hope Agenda, not coercion.
Dr. Arodiogbu argued that the governors and lawmakers joining the APC are motivated by agreement with the party’s vision, not arm-twisting. According to him, no defections of APC governors to opposition parties have occurred recently, and the party expects to strengthen further as more members from other parties continue to join.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has contested these claims, alleging tactics of intimidation and withholding allocations against defectors who stray from the APC fold. ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi warned that electoral victories are not solely about numbers but the conviction of the electorate toward the party’s message.
Despite internal challenges and factional disputes in various states, APC leaders reaffirm their unity and readiness to contest the 2027 polls vigorously. They emphasize the party’s continued dominance and structural resilience as a competitive advantage over opposition coalitions.
