The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed President Bola Tinubu’s alleged strategy of “defection shopping” ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that such tactics will not secure him victory. PDP officials said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) cannot rely on poaching members from opposition parties to win elections, describing the practice as a desperate gesture.
In statements on Tuesday, PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba emphasized that true political strength lies in genuine support and loyalty, rather than chasing defections. He accused the APC of presiding over a government marked by insecurity, economic hardship, and failed governance — factors that will hinder Tinubu’s chances come 2027.
The PDP declared itself the only credible alternative capable of unseating the APC, claiming strong grassroots support and a wide national spread. The party urged Nigerians not to be swayed by defections but to focus on issues affecting their lives. The opposition party stressed that no patriotic Nigerian would back Tinubu given the current state of the nation.
