A civil society organization, the Ondo Redemption Front (ORF), has publicly accused the Ondo State Government, led by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, of a lack of transparency regarding a controversial N240 billion bond issuance. The group alleges that the bond is shrouded in financial secrecy, lacking public visibility on its conditions, utilization, and current status.

During a press briefing held in Akure, ORF revealed possession of documents suggesting that some government officials have been receiving monthly kickbacks amounting to N12 billion from the proceeds of this alleged “secret” bond. The chairman of ORF, Ayodeji Ologun, called on Governor Aiyedatiwa and the Commissioner for Finance to provide full disclosure and accountability on the bond issue.

Ologun emphasized the importance of transparency, warning that continued silence from the government would only serve to confirm suspicions of financial misconduct. He urged the Ondo State House of Assembly to initiate an immediate and thorough investigation into the matter to preserve the state’s integrity.

In response, the Ondo State Commissioner for Information described the group as faceless and dismissed the allegations. Similarly, the Ondo Good Governance Alliance defended the administration, stating that all financial records in the state are open, audited, and verifiable.

This controversy highlights growing demands for accountability in public financial management in Ondo State, reflecting the critical role of civil society in monitoring government activities.
