Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has opened up about his regret over refusing a lucrative €200 million offer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for the combined transfer of Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The French giants reportedly made the proposal to acquire both stars, but Napoli declined, largely due to promises made to the club’s then manager, Antonio Conte.
In an interview with Corriere della Sera, De Laurentiis revealed that the decision to reject the offer was influenced by his commitment to Conte, who wanted to keep Osimhen at the club. He explained that had the deal gone through, the club would have reinvested the funds, possibly targeting forward Viktor Gyökeres as Osimhen’s replacement.
While Kvaratskhelia eventually left Napoli for PSG in January 2025, Osimhen was loaned to Galatasaray in 2024 before completing a permanent move later. De Laurentiis noted that he had to let Kvaratskhelia go because of contractual complications, including agent interference and Article 17 threats.
The president admitted that the rejected offer was a missed opportunity, especially considering PSG’s substantial bid and the potential financial boost it could have provided. However, the loyalty to the manager and the sporting project at the time outweighed the immediate financial gains.
Osimhen had been a vital component of Napoli’s attack, and rejecting PSG’s offer shows the club’s desire to maintain competitive strength, even if it meant passing up a massive transfer sum. This decision underscores the complex balance between financial considerations and sporting ambitions in football transfers.
