The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Kamilu Sa’idu, has emerged victorious in the supplementary by-election for the Kaura Namoda South State Constituency in Zamfara State. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared Sa’idu the winner after collating votes from five polling units spread across Kyambarawa and Saikajiki wards.
According to the returning officer, Professor Lawal Sa’ad of the Federal University Gusau, Kamilu Sa’idu secured a total of 8,182 votes, while his closest rival, Muhammad Lawal Kurya of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 5,543 votes. The result followed a supplementary poll held after initial elections were declared inconclusive due to cancellations and a narrow vote margin.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of the late APC lawmaker Aminu Ibrahim Kasuwar Daji, prompting a re-run to fill the vacant seat in the Zamfara State House of Assembly.
The Zamfara APC has celebrated the victory as a testament to the party’s enduring popularity despite alleged efforts by the PDP to influence the polls through intimidation and other tactics. The win reinforces APC’s dominance in the region, showcasing resilience amid stiff competition from the PDP.
While PDP raised concerns about voter intimidation during the polls, the APC remains optimistic about consolidating its foothold ahead of future elections.
