The lingering crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took another twist as an aide to former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, responded to recent remarks made by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

Makinde had stirred controversy after describing comments from Wike’s loyalists as “gutter talk.” In reaction, Wike’s aide dismissed the governor’s choice of words as disrespectful and urged him to address issues directly rather than resorting to derogatory language.

According to the aide, the internal wrangling within the PDP can only be resolved through sincerity and mutual respect, not by trading insults in the media. He stressed that Makinde’s statements were unhelpful to reconciliation efforts and accused him of attempting to undermine Wike’s influence within the party.

The PDP has been plagued by internal disputes since the 2023 general elections, with key figures openly at odds over leadership, zoning arrangements, and control of party structures. Political observers note that the latest exchange between Wike’s camp and Makinde highlights the deep divisions that continue to threaten the opposition party’s unity ahead of future elections.
