Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has announced that he is prepared to contest the 2027 presidential election alongside former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.

Baba-Ahmed, who made the disclosure while addressing supporters, stated that his decision was driven by the need to continue the political movement they began in 2023, which he described as a mission to rescue Nigeria from poor governance and economic hardship.

He stressed that Nigerians still have faith in the Labour Party and the “Obidient” movement, adding that the overwhelming support received during the last election was a sign that citizens are yearning for change. According to him, running with Obi again in 2027 would consolidate the momentum and present Nigerians with a credible alternative to the ruling party.

The Labour Party has continued to face challenges, including internal wrangling and questions about its structure at the national level. However, Baba-Ahmed maintained that the vision for a new Nigeria remains alive and would be pursued vigorously in the coming election cycle.

Political analysts say Baba-Ahmed’s declaration could re-energize the Labour Party’s base and set the stage for an early build-up to the 2027 general elections.
