A 27-year-old man has reportedly lost his life after being attacked by suspected hoodlums in a community in Delta State.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim was ambushed by the assailants late at night while returning home. The hoodlums, who were said to have been armed with dangerous weapons, beat him severely, leaving him unconscious. He was later confirmed dead.
Residents of the area described the incident as shocking and called on security agencies to step up patrols in the community to prevent further attacks. Some locals alleged that the community has been facing an increase in violent crimes in recent months, with several cases of robbery and assault going unpunished.
The Delta State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement, but security sources disclosed that an investigation has been launched to apprehend those behind the attack.
Community leaders have appealed for calm while urging youths in the area to shun violence and cooperate with law enforcement in restoring peace.
