An All Progressives Congress (APC) support forum has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against considering a change of running mate ahead of the 2027 elections, warning that such a move could cost him significant support from Northern Muslim voters.

Speaking in Abuja, the forum stated that Vice President Kashim Shettima remains a strong political asset for the APC, particularly in the North-East and wider Northern region, where his influence has helped consolidate Tinubu’s support base.

The group argued that replacing Shettima with another candidate could trigger disaffection among Northern Muslims, who already feel politically sensitive about representation in the next election cycle.

They noted that the “Muslim-Muslim ticket” adopted in 2023 was controversial but ultimately played a decisive role in ensuring victory, and dropping Shettima would be seen as a betrayal of trust.

The APC forum, therefore, urged President Tinubu and the party leadership to avoid political miscalculations that could fracture the coalition that delivered power in 2023, stressing that unity between the North and South remains vital for electoral success in 2027.
