The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently declare a state of emergency in Katsina and Zamfara States following renewed waves of banditry and insurgent attacks that have left communities devastated.

According to the opposition party, the worsening security situation in the North-West has reached alarming levels, with daily reports of killings, kidnappings, and displacement of villagers. The ADC noted that the continued attacks not only endanger the lives of ordinary citizens but also threaten food security, education, and economic activity in the region.

Party leaders argued that half measures and reactive strategies were no longer sufficient. Instead, they urged the federal government to take decisive action, including mobilizing additional troops, strengthening intelligence gathering, and ensuring full collaboration with local vigilante groups. They added that a state of emergency would allow for a coordinated, swift, and focused response to restore peace.

The ADC also appealed to international partners and humanitarian agencies to increase support for victims, stressing that displaced families need urgent relief to rebuild their lives. As the 2027 elections approach, the party warned that persistent insecurity could undermine Nigeria’s democratic process and deepen citizens’ frustration with governance.
