The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that over 1.3 million Nigerians pre-registered online for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) within the first week of its continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise.
According to the commission, the highest number of online pre-registrations came from Osun and Lagos States, which together accounted for a significant portion of the total figure. INEC attributed the surge to the enthusiasm of Nigerians eager to participate in the democratic process ahead of upcoming elections.
The breakdown shows Osun State topping the chart, followed closely by Lagos, while other states such as Kano, Rivers, and Oyo also recorded impressive figures. INEC noted that youths between the ages of 18 and 34 dominated the registration exercise, reaffirming the growing political awareness among Nigeria’s younger population.
The commission further disclosed that the online pre-registration is only the first step in the process, as applicants must complete biometric data capture at designated INEC centers to obtain their PVCs.
INEC assured Nigerians of its readiness to ensure a seamless registration exercise across the country while urging citizens not to wait until the deadline before registering.
Top States by Pre-registration (Week One):
-
Osun – 365,421

-
Kano – 128,774
-

The commission reiterated that the exercise is part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections, stressing that voter participation remains the bedrock of democracy.
