The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan Ojulari, has raised alarm that he is under attack by forces allegedly working against his leadership. According to Ojulari, certain individuals both within and outside the system are plotting to undermine him and forcefully remove him from office.

Ojulari, who was appointed to lead the state-owned oil giant during a critical period of reforms, hinted that entrenched interests resisting change may be behind the conspiracy. He noted that his leadership has been marked by efforts to sanitize operations, enforce transparency, and address long-standing inefficiencies in the petroleum sector — moves that, according to him, have unsettled powerful groups benefiting from the old order.

“The truth is, I am under attack. Some people are plotting to unseat me because they are not happy with the reforms we are putting in place. But my commitment remains to Nigeria and to the mandate of making NNPCL a world-class energy company,” Ojulari reportedly said.

Industry observers note that the NNPCL has historically been a battleground of political influence, vested interests, and high-stake contracts. With the company now fully commercialized under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), Ojulari’s push for structural reforms, financial discipline, and global competitiveness may be threatening certain stakeholders.

His revelation has sparked discussions on the need for government backing to protect reform-minded leaders in strategic institutions. Energy analysts argue that failure to shield such executives from undue political and corporate interference could derail Nigeria’s broader oil and gas transformation agenda.

For now, Ojulari insists he will not be distracted by the threats, stressing that his focus remains on delivering efficiency and ensuring that the NNPCL fulfills its mandate in driving energy security and national revenue growth.
