Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has admitted that his role has kept him awake on countless nights, as he strives to meet the expectations of residents and address challenges in the nation’s capital. He made the remarks while responding to comments from the FCT senator, Ireti Kingibe, who had previously questioned his performance and commitment.
Wike explained that managing Abuja comes with enormous pressure, as the city represents not just the seat of power but also the pride of Nigeria. According to him, every decision he takes is carefully weighed, and the responsibility often robs him of sleep.
He stressed that criticism from lawmakers and stakeholders, including Senator Kingibe, is not unexpected, but insisted that his record in office would speak for itself. Wike further pointed out that visible transformations in infrastructure and service delivery in the FCT are proof of his sleepless efforts.
The minister called on Abuja residents to remain patient, promising that his administration will continue to pursue projects that enhance the city’s beauty, security, and livability. He assured that despite political jabs, his focus remains on delivering results.
Wike’s comments add another layer to the ongoing back-and-forth between him and Senator Kingibe, highlighting the tense but engaging relationship between the FCT’s executive and legislative representatives.
