Peter Ameh, a strong supporter of Peter Obi, recently stated that former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike lacks the moral standing to prevent Obi from rejoining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking in an interview, Ameh underscored that Wike’s past actions of openly campaigning against the PDP contradict any position he might take to block Obi’s return.
Ameh pointed out that Obi, a former PDP vice-presidential candidate and a respected political figure, has the constitutional right to affiliate with any party, including the PDP. He argued that Obi’s re-entry into the party should be seen as an opportunity to strengthen the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections rather than a source of division.
The PDP has been embroiled in internal conflicts, with Wike warning that Obi’s return could create problems. However, Ameh and other Obi supporters believe that welcoming credible leaders like Obi is essential for the party’s unity and success. This ongoing debate highlights the deep political rifts within the PDP as Nigeria approaches the next general elections.
