Ambassador Femi Yisa, a prominent political figure and spokesperson for the opposition coalition, has sounded an early alarm regarding alleged plans by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the forthcoming 2027 general elections in Nigeria. Speaking publicly, Yisa accused the APC of strategizing manipulative tactics to secure electoral victory by unfair means but assured that the opposition is fully prepared to resist and expose such efforts.
Yisa pointed to recent past incidents where the APC was accused of electoral malpractice, including overturning legitimately won results in favor of their candidates without due legal challenge from opposition parties. “In my local government, the PDP won seven out of ten wards, but the results were unfairly overturned for APC,” he revealed, highlighting a troubling pattern of institutional bias.
Yisa criticized opposition parties for being complacent in previous elections, stressing that mobilization and vigilance must be heightened. “We won’t allow the APC to manipulate the 2027 polls. The people must rise to the occasion and safeguard the sanctity of their votes,” he urged.
The opposition coalition, which includes the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is organizing grassroots campaigns and legal teams to ensure transparency and accountability during the electoral process. Yisa emphasized the importance of public awareness and activism to counteract any attempts at rigging.
Observers note that allegations of rigging and electoral manipulation have marred Nigeria’s political landscape for years. The APC’s ruling status comes under increasing scrutiny as opposition leaders unite to demand reforms in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the electoral framework.
While the government denies any intention of rigging and attributes election management challenges to logistical issues, opposition voices like Yisa’s raise pressing questions about the integrity of Nigeria’s democracy and the need for vigilant civic participation.
As Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections, attention will remain focused on the opposition’s preparedness to challenge any undemocratic practices and the government’s commitment to free and fair elections.
