Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, has cautioned Nigerians against personal hatred towards President Bola Tinubu, urging critics to instead focus on opposing the President’s political style and policies. Amadi made this statement in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on September 8, 2025.
Amadi argued that demonizing Tinubu as an individual without differentiating between him and others who may share similar flaws is unproductive. He recalled the opposition’s similar approach during the era of former President Goodluck Jonathan, which did not yield the desired political change.
“There is no sense in hating Tinubu as a person and bringing someone who is as heinous in politics and governance as him. That is what we did against @GEJonathan,” Amadi said.
He emphasized that the rational and honest approach is to reject Tinubu’s style of politics and governance and instead support a leader fundamentally different in approach and values. According to Amadi, this is key to realizing genuine political change and progress in Nigeria.
Despite his criticism of Tinubu’s governance, Amadi urged for a more mature and strategic opposition mindset, focusing on policy contrast rather than personal attacks.
This perspective comes amid ongoing debates over President Tinubu’s leadership and the country’s political future ahead of the 2027 elections.
