Chelsea legend John Terry has expressed skepticism over the club’s ability to clinch the Premier League title in the 2025/26 season. Speaking to talkSPORT on September 11, 2025, Terry pointed to the relative inexperience within Chelsea’s current squad as a major hurdle in challenging giants like Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal.

Despite Chelsea’s promising start to the season—winning two and drawing one of their first three matches—Terry believes the youthful side lacks the seasoned leadership necessary to sustain a title challenge. “I don’t think Chelsea have enough experience within their squad to push Liverpool,” Terry stated, suggesting that Liverpool are the clear favourites for the title.

Terry also refrained from putting too much pressure on Chelsea’s young players, acknowledging their potential to be competitive and finish “right amongst it,” but not at the very top this season.

Chelsea’s recent history includes winning the Conference League and a place in the Champions League last season, alongside lifting the expanded Club World Cup in the summer. The team has been refreshed with emerging talents like João Pedro, Alejandro Garnacho, and Liam Delap, alongside exciting international recruits Jamie Gittens and Estevão.

However, John Terry highlighted that Chelsea’s transfer policy, focused mostly on younger signings with lower wages compared to competitors, might limit their ability to bring in marquee players who can consistently win league titles.

With Liverpool still reeling from the tragic loss of Diogo Jota but maintaining strength in depth, and Manchester City showing signs of vulnerability, the competition remains fierce at the top.

Ultimately, Terry encapsulated his view: “It’s Liverpool’s to lose,” indicating the Reds’ status as the team to beat while wishing Chelsea well in their youthful rebuilding phase.

The Premier League season promises a thrilling contest as each club vies for dominance, with Chelsea hoping to close the experience gap and mount a serious title challenge despite Terry’s reservations.
