The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state to reconsider its ongoing strike. The party warned that the prolonged industrial action is hurting grassroots communities that depend on local government services.

In a statement issued on September 14, 2025, and signed by APC media director Kola Olabisi, the party criticized NULGE’s decision to keep local government workers away from their duties amid political tensions related to the validity of APC reinstated local government council chairmen’s tenures.

The strike stemmed from safety concerns following violent clashes between supporters of the APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun, resulting in a ban on council secretariat work by the union. APC accused NULGE of acting as an extension of the PDP rather than an independent labor organization, alleging that while average union members suffer, the leadership continues to benefit from Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

Olabisi also described the union’s leadership under Dr. Nathaniel Ogungbangbe as lacking tact and accused them of attending external seminars despite not working with members during the strike.

The APC highlighted a recent Federal High Court action in Osogbo by reinstated APC chairmen seeking to extend their tenure until 2028, questioning the union’s belief that the tenures expire in October 2025 amid ongoing legal proceedings.

The party urged NULGE to call off the strike, emphasizing that the current situation is unsustainable and detrimental to the welfare of ordinary workers and local communities in Osun.
