Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has officially welcomed a large group of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the ranks of the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). The event took place at the Deputy Governor’s office on Sunday, September 14, 2025, marking a significant political shift in the state.

The defectors, led by Malam Bala Ladani Gwarzo, expressed their decision to leave the APC was motivated by dissatisfaction with the party’s inability to fulfill the aspirations of the people. The majority of the defectors hail from 10 wards within Gwarzo Local Government Area and neighboring LGAs.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Malam Bala Ladani commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration for its people-centered leadership and developmental strides, stating that this was a key factor in their realignment. The group pledged loyalty to the NNPP and committed to working diligently toward the party’s success at all levels.

Deputy Governor Gwarzo described the defection as a clear reflection of the growing acceptance of the NNPP’s governance vision for Kano State and Nigeria at large. He encouraged the new members to embrace the party’s ideals and contribute actively to its grassroots strengthening. Gwarzo assured them of full integration, equal opportunity, and urged them to view the move as more than political convenience but as a collective effort to improve the lives of Kano people.

Top party officials, including the Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government, Dr. Mani Tsoho, welcomed the defectors and reiterated their support for the NNPP’s expanding influence. The mass defection is viewed as a substantial boost to the NNPP’s political landscape, positioning the party strongly ahead of future electoral contests.

This development underscores the fluid nature of Nigerian party politics, reflecting shifts in public sentiment and increasing demand for responsive governance.
