Waziri Bulama, former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed concerns over the state of political parties in Nigeria. Speaking recently, Bulama highlighted that APC and other parties in the country face significant challenges in adhering to the required standards of good governance, internal democracy, and organizational discipline.

Bulama pointed out that many political parties struggle with issues related to transparency, candidate selection, and internal governance practices, which undermine public confidence and the overall credibility of the Nigerian political system. These challenges, he noted, impede the parties’ ability to function effectively and meet the expectations of democratic accountability.

While acknowledging APC’s developmental achievements and electoral successes, Bulama emphasized the need for continuous reforms within the party structure and across other political organizations. He called for strengthened regulatory frameworks and greater commitment to uphold party constitutions, ideals, and democratic norms.

The former APC national secretary also stressed that for Nigerian democracy to deepen and improve, political parties must demonstrate higher levels of integrity, inclusiveness, and respect for the rule of law. This, he argued, is essential for fostering true democratic governance and delivering effective service to the people.

As the 2027 general elections approach, Bulama’s comments serve as a reminder of the work needed within party systems to ensure they reflect the aspirations of Nigerians and contribute constructively to Nigeria’s political development.
