The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has openly stated that defection to their party remains the best political option for Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the 2027 general elections approach. APC officials highlighted the opportunity Kwankwaso would have within the ruling party to influence governance and advance his political career more effectively than in his current party.
The ruling party expressed readiness to warmly receive Kwankwaso and accommodate his ambitions, noting that the APC provides the broadest platform and the strongest machinery to win elections at federal and state levels. This comes amid speculations and ongoing discussions regarding Kwankwaso’s potential exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), where he holds a significant leadership role.
APC strategists believe that securing Kwankwaso’s defection could be a strategic move to consolidate power ahead of 2027, particularly because of his political influence in the northern region and among supporters. The party dismissed concerns about factional rifts or rival ambitions, emphasizing unity and shared vision among members.
Kwankwaso himself has publicly denied plans to defect, creating a narrative of cautious political maneuvering. However, the APC remains optimistic about pulling the former Kano State governor onboard, positioning itself as the dominant force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
As 2027 nears, political alignments are expected to intensify, with defections becoming key elements in campaign strategies across parties.
