Galatasaray’s head coach Okan Buruk has provided a cautious but positive update on Victor Osimhen’s fitness ahead of the highly anticipated UEFA Champions League clash with Liverpool scheduled for Tuesday at the Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi Stadium. Osimhen, who has been sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on September 6, remains under a fitness test to determine his availability.

Buruk revealed that Osimhen has resumed training and managed to play 10 minutes in the team’s previous match, but he is still not at full fitness. “Victor continued training. We will see how he was in the last training session today. It’s positive that he played 10 minutes in the last match and continued training,” Buruk stated, adding that a final decision on Osimhen’s inclusion will be made today.

The former African Footballer of the Year is a key attacking threat for Galatasaray, whose season started with a heavy 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League opener without Osimhen’s influence. His potential return will bolster the Turkish club’s hopes of challenging Liverpool, a side that remains undefeated in the current Premier League season.

Osimhen’s gradual return to fitness has been closely monitored, with the coaching staff balancing his need for match fitness against concerns over aggravating his injury. If cleared, his presence will add firepower and confidence to Galatasaray’s frontline as they look to rebound from their opening loss and make a strong impact in Europe’s premier club competition.
