The Nigerian Educational Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially closed the application portal for the 2024/2025 academic session’s student loan scheme as of September 30, 2025. This closure marks the end of the initial period during which eligible Nigerian students could apply for interest-free loans to support their higher education expenses.
NELFUND warned that all unverified applications submitted before the deadline will be automatically cancelled after October 8, 2025, urging students to ensure their profiles and documents are fully verified within this grace period. The organization emphasized the importance of timely verification to avoid disqualification and ensure loan disbursement on schedule.
Students who missed the recent application window have been informed that a fresh portal will reopen with a new timeline to accommodate late applicants. Details regarding the new application period and criteria will be communicated through official NELFUND channels and partnering institutions.
The student loan initiative aims to empower Nigerian youth by breaking financial barriers to education, providing funds to cover tuition, accommodation, and upkeep. Once approved, the loans are disbursed as e-wallet payments directly to students’ school accounts, with repayment only commencing two years after completing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.
NELFUND continues to encourage eligible students to stay updated through their website and official social media pages for announcements on the next loan application phase.
