Global music streaming giant Spotify has crowned Nigerian Grammy-winning superstar Burna Boy as the Top Afrobeats Artist of 2025. The announcement prominently places Burna Boy ahead of fellow leading Nigerian artists Rema, Wizkid, Asake, and Ayra Starr, who also featured in the top five of Spotify’s most streamed Afrobeats artists worldwide for the year.
Burna Boy’s continued dominance on the global stage was propelled by hits such as “Last Last,” “City Boys,” and his critically acclaimed album No Signs of Weakness, which showcased his artistic versatility and international appeal. His collaborations and unique sound have helped to expand the reach of Afrobeats across continents, reinforcing Nigeria’s position as the heart of the genre.
Rema secured the second spot, boosted by the global popularity of his smash hit “Calm Down,” while Wizkid held third place, reflecting a year of chart-topping collaborations and releases. Asake and Ayra Starr completed the top five, with Ayra Starr notably being the only female artist on the list, thanks to her hit “Hot Body.”
Spotify’s ranking underscores the significant growth of Afrobeats music worldwide and the increasing demand for Nigerian artists who continue to shape the global music landscape.
